The “douggie” Burger

WOw … just blown away with this one!

So a friend of mine told me about  a veggie burger someone  had made for her . She explained it was the “meatiest” veggie burger she’s ever had!  delicious and filling.

From her description of how she thought they were made … I attempted them with my own twist! I just couldn’t wait for the recipe ; p

I must warn you this recipe yields 2 patties ( I was experimenting, and so double up if need be  )

1/2 cup of Oatmeal ( ….. get ready to have your mind blown!!)

1/4 cup of fresh herbs…. be adventurous! I used fresh thyme and basil = wicked combination ; p

1/3 cup of red onion…. or any kind you like

3 tablespoons of chia seed * Chia acts like an egg ( in other words   the bonder or glue that holds it all together )… so you’ll be able to tell if you need more , adjust accordingly.

2 splashes of almond milk

Shred in a vegetable of your choice .. I went with yellow zucchini mmm …

1/3 cup of vegetable stock

Coconut oil, vegan margarine ,grape seed oil for sautéing

Braggs ( soy sauce, or sea salt to  taste)

An Ode to Oats

I love you oats

…Because as a wee one you relieved my ever so ichy chicken poxy skin.

…Because you provide me with  a completely  full belly

….Because said full belly is also properly nourished by your protein and fibre.

……Because you’re a great option for those looking to reduce their colesterol  …Ooh ! and don’t forget our diabetic friends!

….Because you give me B1 and magnesium

…Because you’re adaptable!

Douggie Burger

Start by sautéing the onions and herbs w oil of choice and a few splashes of braggs.

Remove from heat  shred in the zucchini and add in the oats.

stir in the almond milk and chia seeds.

You’ve worked hard so far… So go hang out for about an hour. Read a book, Ride a bike ,do a dance…. just distract yourself for an hour ; p

After an hour of sitting uncovered at room temperature… it’s time to get your veggie stock brewing : )

Form patties in the palm of your hand and add them to the brewing broth.

allow the burgers to hang out for about 7-10 minutes, taking time to flip occasionally

Remove from broth and serve!

Such a delicious and unlikely combination… Sadly, I wouldnt recommend putting them on the BBQ but these puppies are packed with flavour!

… I shall call this the Douggie burger.
